Guilford GROWS out grew its original mission and spawned two new organizations.
The community programs that we developed and organized quickly became annual events, and from that grew a need to support Guilford Central Schools afterschool athletic program with the loss of our middle school. After months of negotiations, organizational meetings, community building, and with the support of the SelectBoard, we had a new Town Commission called Guilford Recreation. Since 2016, the Guilford Recreation has been providing recreation opportunities for Guilford residents both at GCS, and throughout the community. The Guilford Recreation has a great group of volunteers who continue the mission of providing recreation opportunities for EVERYONE in Guilford! As you can see, at the 'Get Involved' tab, many of our Recreation programs had thier birth at Guilford GROWS.
Guilford GROWS mission was to create a more cohesive community through social activities, and by creating a communication network to help community members feel connected to their town. While the Guilford Recreation served much of the mission, there was still the need to create a way for community members to find out what is happening in our community, and get involved. This lead to the development of 'Discover Guilford'. Discover Guilford is a website just for Guilford and it's residents. You will find an activities calendar of course, but in addition there are stories about the people of Guilford, a business directory so we can support our local businesses, and great marketing potential for those businesses that didn't exist before. We are a proud community of farmers, craftspeople, artists, and entrepureurs who now have a way to promote our talents to our neighbors. We hope you take part in Discover Guilford!
